The movie muscleman came out looking armed and dangerous on Brit comic Craig Ferguson's US chat show.
After showing off his gun to the studio audience he told Ferguson: "I brought that in case you didn't like the new movie.
"I wasn't sure. I thought if you didn't like it I would kill you and then we would start over."
But Sly insisted he's really a big softie and not as tough as he looks. He told how he would love to star in a sequel to Brit rom-com Notting Hill and claimed: "I'm a tiny fairy."
Stallone said he decided to film Rambo close to the border of Burma to highlight the brutality the people living there have had to endure.
He said: "Burma is hell on earth.
"It's the worst place on the planet.
"I wanted to do a film about the poor tribes people who have been to war and slaughtered and mutilated for years.
"We talked to people like the UN and Soldier of Fortune magazine.
"We said, 'What is the worst place anyone knows about so we can provide entertainment but also awareness for these people."
He told how the Rambo cast and crew were subjected to daily death threats and joked: "It got to a point where we were getting so many death threats it actually became enjoyable. "At 7.15am it was a wake-up call, 'Go die Yankee'.
