Britney's Spears' mental issues are actually signs of an dangerous addiction to Crystal Meth, according to shocking reports in the U.S.
While the world thinks the troubled pop star is bipolar, the National Enquirer insists her erratic behaviour is actually signs of a "drug-addled descent into madness".
The shocking report in the Enquirer claims that Britney has "been getting high on the drug for years".
And the magazine insists "a three-day crystal meth binge" was behind the stand-off with police at her home that led to her being forced into hospital - and losing custody of her kids. "Britney was high on crystal meth and naked all day leading up to the incident with the police," an insider said.
"Britney used meth before and after both her pregnancies.
"Even when losing her boys became an issue, she didn't stop."
In fact, the insider insists she turned to the drug as soon as she lost custody of sons Sean and Jayden. "After the boys were taken from her, Britney went on another drug binge, using crystal meth almost every day for an entire week," the insider told the Enquirer. "Britney kept leaving ex-husband Kevin Federline eerie messages.
"One said, 'I'm in hell and no one can help me'."
According to the Enquirer, Britney keeps the drug in a glass vial in her purse - and it explains her regular bathroom trips.
Now family and friends are said to fear the drug use could end in tragedy. "People around Britney believe that she's horribly addicted to meth," the insider insisted.
"Her family and friends are worried that she wont last a year."
Experts say that Britney's behaviour perfectly fits that of someone going on met binges.
"In heavy doses the drug causes nervousness, paranoia, complete loss of judgment, hallucinations ad extremely bizarre behaviour," said Dr James Cocores, a well-known expert on drug addiction.
"Meth users lose their grip on reality and will sacrifice their careers, kids and families to keep using the drug."
Dr Cocores said that Britney's family's reported fears could be well-founded.
"Britney Spears appears to have an extremely serious problem - something that could kill her at any time," the doctor told the Enquirer.
"People who use crystal meth every few days are reaching the final stages of addiction. They are totally out of control - and often don't live very long."
