Actor Johnny Depp answered the prayers of property developers, struggling to sell their apartments in a Los Angeles structure when the 'Sweeney Todd' star swooped in and purchased a $2 million penthouse. Since Johnny bought the plush apartment - demand to live in the tower has skyrocketed.
According to PageSix.com, apartments in the 13-story Art Deco Eastern Columbia Building in downtown Los Angeles, which start at $600,000, quickly started getting snatched up by eager fans desperate to share the same address as the actor. Contrary to published reports that the building is still vacant, and the 147-unit building is 90 percent occupied. A sales agent said, "We've been very successful, with only a few lofts remaining."
This isn't the first time Hollywood stars have waved their magic wand on property sales - Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire both snapped up units in the four-tower Panorama Towers in Las Vegas. The first two towers were sold prior to commencement of construction and the third tower, which is currently under construction, was 80 per cent sold prior to breaking ground.
