Here's US Presidential hopeful Senator John McCain as a fresh-faced schoolboy. The Republican - vying to win his party's nomination for the White House race - was nicknamed 'Punk' by classmates at his private boarding school.
McCain, 71, attended Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia from 1951 until he graduated in 1954.
According to the school he excelled in wrestling, and in his senior year [1954] competed in the 127lb class.
He also worked on the school newspaper, The Chronicle, and was a member of the dramatics and missionary societies.
Upon graduating, he attended the US Naval Academy, before joining the Navy.
His yearbook entry, from 1954, reads: "It was three fateful years ago that the "Punk" first crossed the threshold of The High School.
"In this time he has become infamous as one of our top-flight wrestlers, lettering for two seasons.
"His magnetic personality has won for him many life-long friends.
"John is remarkable for the amount of gray hair he has; this may come from his cramming for Annapolis or from his nocturnal perambulations.
"The Naval Academy is his future abode - we hope he will prosper there."
