Heath Ledger suffered with Insomnia

Heath LedgerActor Heath Ledger, who died yesterday, aged 28, was an Insomniac, it has been reported.

Heath had just returned from filming new movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in London feeling jet-lagged and exhausted.

His maid would later find him lying naked and faced-down on his bed, with bottles of Ambien and two other prescription antidepressants by his side.

The New York Police Department said in a statement that they did not suspect foul play was a factor in his death. An autopsy is being performed today, though it will be several days before the toxicology results will be made available, PageSix.com is reporting.

Heath had been upfront about his lack of success using Ambien, something he mentioned in an interview with the New York Times last November, when he said the pills "failed to work." He took two and, according to the story, "fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing."

The the Aussie star - known for his performance in the 2005 flick Brokeback Mountain, seemed to be happy, hanging out in his new pad in New York's trendy SoHo neighborhood and toting around his 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, the discovery of antidepressants prescribed in Heath's name has led to speculation about his state of mind, even though police have ruled out suicide.

His rep recently released a statement saying: "We are all deeply saddened and shocked by this accident. This is an extremely difficult time for his loved ones and we are asking the media to please respect the family's privacy and avoid speculation until the facts are known."
