Heath Ledger's body was moved from a New York City funeral home to a nearby airport at 16:00 today, a police source has said.
The airport is unknown, but a source told Us Weekly magazine that the casket is headed for L.A., possibly as a layover on its way to Ledger's hometown of Perth, Australia.
A black suit was delivered to the funeral home for Ledger to wear.
Ledger was found dead on Tuesday afternoon by his masseuse.
Today, his family published a moving tribute to the 28-year-old in a West Australian newspaper.
Heath's older sister Kate told how her "heart and life" had been "torn apart" by his shock death.
She referred to him by the nickname "Roast" and wrote: "I can hardly breathe when I try to write this. We were the ultimate in soul mates.
"I feel both my heart and life have been torn apart.
"I loved our special talks, our daily chats from where ever you were in the world.
"I especially loved all the precious time we spent together.
"We were so fortunate to have you as long as we did.
"You were so many things to so many people, but to me you were just my little brother.
"There will never, ever be another "Heath" and I think that in itself is the greatest tragedy.
"I will continue to talk with you everyday and love you just as if you were here. You will never leave my thoughts "Roast", ever."
Dad Kim, who has traveled to New York from Perth to meet the medical examiner today, recalled the pair's chats and laughs.
He wrote: "My beautiful boy, so loving, so talented, so independent, so caring, so young . . . no more chess games mate . . . this is it, couldn't beat you anyway
"My body aches for the sound of your voice, our chats, our laughs and our life and times together.
"We were one, in soul and commitment. Just . . . Father and Son. I will love you forever, Dad."
Kim referred to Heath by the nicknames "Heatho" and "Beef".
Mum Sally pledged to take care of Heath's beloved two-year-old daughter Matlida.
She wrote: "Our darling boy, special in so many ways to all of us.
"You knew you were so loved. You lived life with courage and daring and we are so grateful for the wonderful times we shared.
"We will be there for Matilda.
Heath's younger sister Olivia said: "I miss you and pray every night you're safe."
The Oscar-nominated actor's uncles have insisted there is no way he would have taken his own life because he would never have left Matilda.
