A woman who fled charges that she slashed actor Leonardo DiCaprio at a party in 2005 has been arrested in Canada for a similar crime, police said.
Aretha Wilson, 37, had failed to turn herself in after an arrest warrant was issued in July 2005 charging her with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
The arrest warrant said the Titanic star suffered "great bodily injury" when she allegedly attacked him with a broken beer bottle on June 20 2005, as he was leaving a party in the Hollywood Hills, in Los Angeles.
DiCaprio was photographed with scars on his neck soon after the incident.
Now it is hoped she will be extradited to the US to face the charges against her after it emerged that Wilson has been in custody for several months in Toronto in connection with an aggravated assault case.
She is also a suspect in other assault cases, Los Angeles police Detective Steve Ramirez said.
He said police now hope to seek her extradition from Canada to face charges for the DiCaprio attack.
Blair Berk, a lawyer for DiCaprio said that the actor has been co-operating with local and Canadian authorities.
DiCaprio, 33, is one of Hollywood's biggest stars. He has appeared in films including "Gangs of New York," "The Departed" and "Blood Diamond.
