Heath Ledger is set to be buried in his homeland of Perth, Australia, it has been revealed. The 28-year-old actor's body was transported today from the New York medical examiner's office, where an autopsy was carried out this morning, to the Frank E. Campbell funeral chapel.
A source at the funeral home revealed to PageSix.com that they are preparing to ship Heath's body as soon as possible. Although Ledgers' family is still believed to be in Australia, his former lover, 'Dawson's Creek' actress Michelle Williams, who is also the mother of his two-year-old daughter, was flying into New York from Sweden today.
A rep for the Australian consulate said: “Our consulate has been in contact with his family and has offered assistance” to help fly Heath’s body back to Australia.
The Frank E. Campbell funeral chapel has been the final stop for many of the world's most famous names including Jackie Kennedy Onassis, John Lennon, Judy Garland and Luther Vandross.
An Australian newspaper is reportig that Heath's father, Kim, will be attending an event in LA at the end of the week with Australian model Gemma Ward, the woman last romantically linked to Heath. It's believed the event will be a memorial service for the Brokeback Mountain star. Gemma's mother, Claire, told the newspaper that her daughter is currently in New York.
Meanwhile, the NYPD have confirmed that a rolled-up $20 bill was found near Heath Ledger's body - but that no illegal drugs were found in his apartment.
NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly says that no drug residue was found on the note, but that it will be sent for testing.
Commissioner Kelly has not elaborated on whether the police think Ledger used the rolled up note to take drugs.
