Family & friends turn out for Brad Renfro’s funeral

Brad RenfroThe funeral of Brad Renfro - who tragically passed away last Tuesday aged just 25, took place yesterday.

He was remembered by family and friends at a funeral and memorial service in his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee.

An arrangement of red, white and yellow flowers adorned the closed casket, along with a photograph of a young, smiling Renfro, the Knoxville News Sentinel has reported.

Approximately 600 people, including Renfro's father and stepmother, Mark and Kim Renfro, and his mother, Angel Olsen, paid their respects.

Brad's (maternal) grandmother, Judy Hurt, half-sister Haley Olsen and stepbrother Dane Hoffmeister, also attended. His (paternal) grandmother, Joanne Renfro, who raised Renfro from the age of 5, was too ill to make it.

Brad's great-uncle, Michael Earl officiated the funeral service.

During his sermon, he hinted at the actor's past problems with drug addiction.

"Brad had problems just like I have problems, just like you have problems, just like all of us have trials and tribulations that we go through," Earl said.

"Was Brad perfect? Well, I can tell you, I'm not. Are you?

"He lived life, and he enjoyed it," Earl later said of the actor. "Whatever he did, he did it hard as he could. If he messed up, he'd go after it 100 percent. Yeah, I know him. And yes, I loved him."

Brad - who had just finished filming 'The Informers' opposite Micky Rourke, Billy Bon Thornton, Winnona Ryder and Kim Basinger, was found dead in his L.A. apartment on Tuesday Jan 17. Results from Thursday's autopsy are expected in about six weeks.

His obituary in the local newspaper described him as being "of the Baptist faith." A son, Y Renfro, was listed among his survivors.

A graveside service and interment are scheduled for Tuesday at noon.
