Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has a new career - as a soap star. Lloyd Webber is to appear in a handful of episodes of the teeny soap Hollyoaks - as himself.
He will star in the Channel 4 soap at the end of January, revealing: "I've blurred fiction with fact all my life but never on national television!"
Lloyd Webber's decision to appear in the show is part of his effort to boost his West End revival of The Sound of Music via TV.
It was his idea to create a BBC reality show to find a Maria for the celebrated musical.
The Hollyoaks plot involving Lloyd Webber will see wannabe star Summer Shaw - played by actress Summer STrallen - begging him for an audition.
Presumably she's successful because The Sound of Music leading lady Connie Fisher finishes her contract in February to be replaced by STrallen.
Lloyd Webber will then be back on British TV screens later in the year on I'd Do Anything, another reality show to cast a woman to play Nancy and three bots to alternate in the role of Oliver!
