Shirley MacLaine once mistook cocaine for sugar - and spooned thousands of dollars of the white stuff into her coffee, she has revealed. The Oscar winner - who is anti-drugs - made the social faux pas at a Hollywood party.
She said: "We were sitting around and there was a silver container of what I thought was Sweet'N Low but it was coke.
"And into my cup I put about a couple of thousand dollars of coke and I never got invited back."
She said another guest stopped her from drinking the concoction, adding: "The expense was more than anybody could stand."
The veteran actress also spoke out about Lindsay Lohan, who she was due to work with on the film Poor Things. Instead the troubled Freaky Friday star checked into rehab.
MacLaine said: "She has her problems. I don't know what's going on, lack of parenting skills, maybe there are no boundaries."
She accused Lohan of craving attention, and said: "I think the addiction to fame, regardless of what kind of fame you have, is a disease and I think some of these girls have that addiction to having their picture in the paper and in the magazines.
"It really affects their work as they can't get insurance.
"It all comes down to money if they can't get insurance they can't work," she said on Britain's GMTV.
