Brandy will not face criminal charges

BrandyR&B star Brandy will not face criminal charges over a fatal car crash a year ago which killed a mother-of-two.

The 'Boy Is Mine' singer, 28, faced up to a year in jail if charged and convicted and had an agonising 12-month wait while the LA City Attorney reviewed the case.

Brandy's Land Rover rear-ended a car on an LA freeway on December 30 last year in a chain-reaction crash involving two other vehicles.

The driver of the car, 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj, died the following day from her injuries.

Police had recommended Brandy - full name Brandy Norwood - be charged with vehicular manslaughter, which carries a maximum one-year jail sentence. But prosecutors decided there was "insufficient evidence" against her.

Cops said Brandy was not distracted or under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

Brandy's attorney Blair Berk said in a statement: "These past 12 months have posed an extraordinary hardship for Brandy and her family, who have been unfairly forced to live under a cloud of suspicion initially caused by the ill-advised and premature press release sent out by the California Highway Patrol accusing Brandy of wrongdoing before the police investigation was even finished. "However, Brandy continues to be mindful that she was so fortunate to be uninjured in this accident and there was a life lost that should be remembered."

Brandy still faces a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit filed by Awatef Aboudihaj's family.
