Pete Doherty's effort to curb his drugs fueled rock 'n' roll lifestyle might just be working.
The 'Babyshambles' frontman is currently locked away in the Wiltshire countryside, where he is renting a nine-bedroom mansion from the Earl of Cardigan.
And country life appears to agree with the 28-year-old bad boy - who is planning a New Year's Eve bash for a few friends.
"Pete wants to spend the evening away from London. He is organizing a get-together with a jamming session at his house in Marlborough," a source close to Pete told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper.
"You can never be quite sure that Pete will stick to his plans but he insists he wants it to be low-key."
Doherty enjoyed a low-key Christmas this year after breaking up with supermodel Kate Moss in July.
Last year, Pete spent the festive season with Kate, 33, and her daughter Lila Grace at her Cotswolds home.
However, while Doherty is looking forward to the New Year, bookmakers William Hill have named the singer, along with Amy Winehouse, joint favorites to be jailed in early 2008.
Doherty was on remand last year and faces jail again unless he stays clean.
Amy Winehouse's taxi-driving father Mitch admitted earlier this month that he was furious when he found out his daughter was friends with the notorious musician.
He fumed to Britain's Grazia magazine: "I do worry about people like Pete Doherty though. He's a scumbag.
"I flipped when I saw him sitting with Amy backstage at her Brixton gig. That night I went crazy.
"My wife thought I was going to have a heart attack, I was apoplectic."
