Michelle Rodriguez turns herself over to the authorities

Michelle RodriguezHollywood actress Michelle Rodriguez has turned herself over to authorities to spend a 'Lost' Christmas behind bars.

The troubled star - who played Ana Lucia on the hit TV series Lost - handed herself over to the Los Angeles Sheriff last night (Sun) to begin a 180-day sentence for violating her probation.

The 29-year-old will spend her time in the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California - the same jail that housed Paris Hilton for 45-days earlier this year.

Rodriguez - whose real name according to her booking sheet is Mayte Michelle Rodriguez - had been on probation for several offences including drunk driving and hit and run.

A judge sentenced her to 180 days in October after the star failed to prove she had completed her community service and was caught drinking three times while wearing an alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet.

Like '24 actor Kiefer Sutherland, the star will also spend New Year locked up.

During her sentencing the judge specifically said that the actress must remain in jail for the entire 180 days and would not be granted early release or home confinement.

Last year, Rodriguez was sentenced to 260 days in jail but because of overcrowding she was released the same day she went in.

The star's recent troubles with the law began when she was caught drunk driving in Hawaii in December 2005, near to the set of Lost. She spent two days in jail in the tropical island in April 2006 but was sentenced to more time in Los Angeles because at the time of her arrest the star was already on probation for a 2003 drunk driving offence in Hollywood.

In June 2004 she had been placed on three years' probation after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
