Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy sparks controversy amongst fans

Casey Aldridge and Jamie LynnLast week, Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old sister of troubled pop princess Britney Spears announced she was pregnant, causing widespread controversy - many people gave their opinions, including TV's Dr Phil McGraw, who said: "We know the Spears family, particularly the parents."

"An asset that Britney and Jamie Lynn both have is a great and dedicated mother."

Jamie Lynn even got the support of presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, he said: "It's a tragedy when a 16-year-old who is not really prepared for all the responsibilities of adult life is going to be now faced with all the responsibilities of honest-to-goodness adult life."

"Apparently, she's going to have the child and I think that is the right decision, a good decision, and I respect that and appreciate it," Huckabee continued. "I hope it is not an encouragement to other 16-year-olds who think that is the best course of action."

"But at the same time I'm not going to condemn her," he said. "I just hope that she will make another right decision and that's to give that child all the love and kindness and care that she can."

Jamie was also blasted by two high-profile teen magazine editors, with CosmoGIRL! Editor-in-Chief Susan Schulz telling Us weekly magazine: "I was considering her for an upcoming cover, but with this news, I’d have to rethink that."

Though Schulz praised Jamie Lynn for “taking responsibility,” Schulz added: “I don’t feel like I can put her on the cover right now because, as you can imagine, girls are disappointed in Jamie Lynn.”

Seventeen magazine's Editor-in-Chief, Ann Shoket, added: “we would certainly consider putting Jamie Lynn on the cover, but only after she overcomes this moment and goes on “to have a career our readers can look up to."

“Getting pregnant at 16 is not something we're encouraging,” Shoket says.

Schulz continued that she doesn’t expect teen girls to follow in Britney Spears' little sister's footsteps.

“Girls aren’t going to go out and get pregnant because Jamie Lynn did, quite the opposite,” the Shoket says. She said they’re probably thinking, "'I’m so glad that’s not me.'"

At the time, Schulz said Spears “appears to be very resolved in her decision, and regardless of whether girls agree with her actions or not, they see that she is doing what she personally feels is best despite the uproar over her news.”

But, despite all that, the people that really matter are the fans, what did they think?

We take a look over the many comments left by ShowbizSpy.com readers:

Kelsey said: "Jamie Lynn was a little stupid when she decided to keep the baby (in my opinion). Blame Casey if she ends up like Britney."

On Britney Spears being blamed for her sister's pregnancy, Adina added: "Blaming Britney Spears for her sister Jamie Lynn’s stupid decisions is just ridiculous. At least Britney was an adult when she became pregnant and MARRIED. We are all human beings and we make our own choices. I don’t think Britney Spears was in the bedroom when they decided not to use any protection, if any thing blame the mother and father for allowing their 16 year old CHILD to be dating at the you age of 13, with someone three years older. He should be locked up for RAPE. It’s so typical that Casey has chosen to publicly announce that the relationship has ended since finding out that Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. I think she is making the right choice in keeping the child, should have plenty of money to take care of it."

Reader Abby gave her opinion: "Jamie Lynn has ruined her career. Little girls who watch her show look up to her and she is setting a very bad example for them. It is common for teen girls to get pregnant but when you’re famous and star in a T.V. show for kids, you should act and be responsible."

Another reader added: "I honestly cant believe it! I always thought that Jamie Lynn was such a good kid!"

Reader Jossy adds: "Jamie Lynn you have ruined your most fruitful years you will never know how it feels to be young because yo taking on the adults road."

So, what's your opinion on the whole Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy? Who's to blame? Britney Spears? Her mum Lynne?
