Sylvester Stallone defends the use of human growth hormones

Sylvester StalloneMuscleman Sylvester Stallone today defended the use of human growth hormones.

The Rambo star got into trouble with the law after getting caught with vials of the banned substance in Sydney, Australia.

But Stallone insisted that the problem was people's "archaic" view on the hormones, adding: "I only wish that it were true, that you can just take something like that and you're in shape."

Stallone was asked on .S. TV if he had the hormones because he was about to film the latest Rambo and wanted to "be pumped for the role".

But the actor insisted: "It's not pumped up

"What people don't understand about HGH is it's an Amino Acid.

"A long time ago people didn't understand what they were talking about so they lumped everything together.

"It's really archaic the way people perceive HGH."

He insisted that his powerful physique - as muscular at 61 as ever - was not a result of a quick-fix from taking pills. "I only wish that it were true, that you can just take something like that and you're in shape.

"You've got to put I years and years and years of hard labour to get in shape."

He said the the hormones only helped him recover from the "wear and tear" the exercise did to his muscles to allow him to train harder and more frequently. "The power to recuperate is very, very limited," he said. "All it does is expedite" that process.

As well as discussing the issue Stallone was also happy to joke about it.

Looking at interviewer Mat Lauer, a fitness buff himself, Stallone joked: "As a matter of fact you're looking kinda physical yourself - I'm gonna take a blood test on you immediately after the show."
