Robbie Williams’ unsold albums to resurface China’s roads

Robbie Williams This looks like another kick in the teeth for Robbie Williams.

He's been snubbed by the Brit Awards again, he's struggling get to rid of those extra few pounds he gained on over Christmas - and now the singer's unsold CDs are being shipped over to China to be used for resurfacing roads!

Record label insiders revealed yesterday that more than one-million copies of Robbie's critically panned 'Rudebox' album will be crushed and then used in street lighting and road projects.

The former 'Take That' singer, 33, released Rudebox - his 10th studio album in 2006. But it only managed to shift a disappointing 500,000 copies in the UK - a far cry away from his heyday where his last album, Escapology, shifted a whopping 2 million in the UK alone.

A source close to the fading popstar, revealed: "EMI often ships out unwanted CDs to China so they can be recycled.

"It's the ultimate kick in the teeth for him. He loved this album, but going by all the unsold CDs he was obviously the only one.

"Now there's no better use for them than to be crushed up and trampled on."

Robbie's recordi label, EMI are launching the recycling scheme in a bid to cut costs after losing £263million (roughly $526m) in 2007.

The firm is expected to cut nearly 2,000 jobs to save an annual £200m ($400m) after last year's takeover by private equity group Terra Firma.

Meanwhile, EMI's new CEO, Guy Hands, has denied reports that the 'Feel' star is on strike against the label, after it had been claimed he was withholding his new album.

Hands said: "Robbie is still working in the studio, but he's working at a slower pace, which is appropriate to producing the best music he can, and that's something we at EMI support him in."
