Naomi Watts hates the Oscars

Naomi WattsHollywood babe Naomi Watts says she doesn't approve of the Oscars.

The 39-year-old actress - who recently mourned the loss of her ex-lover Heath Ledger, and received a Best Actress nomination for her role in '21 Grams' in 2004 - believes film making should not be a "competition"

She said: "I'm not going to lie, it's nice to get recognition from your peers. It means a lot. But I also feel one's work shouldn't be judged against someone else's. It's not a competition."

The 'King Kong' star also hates the amount of campaigning which goes on during the build-up to the Oscars.

She said: "You get asked to do an enormous amount of publicity to promote your chances, and I don't necessarily think it works.

"It isn't what acting and making movies is all about. When I wasn't nominated for 'Mulholland Drive' in 2001 everyone kept saying 'Oh, sorry you're not nominated', when the thought of being on the shortlist hadn't even crossed my mind in the first place."

The 80th Academy Awards are due to take place with a star-studded ceremony at California's Kodak Theater on February 24.

However, rumors are still swirling the traditional glitzy ceremony will not take place because of the Hollywood writers' strike.

She hasn't said she "hates" the Oscars. She just thinks it's not right to see it as a competition amongst actors who also have had to campaign for it. Please do not exaggerate the issue, whoever writes the heading or passes it on.
