Ewan McGregor prepared to lose $10m for a bike ride

Ewan McGregorScottish actor Ewan McGregor has revealed that his regular cross-country motorbike jaunts cost him around $10million in lost work - but he refuses to quit them.

The 36-year-old actor rides around the globe with his actor pal Charley Boorman in Long Way Round and gone from John O'Groats to Cape Town in Long Way Down.

The actor - probably best known for his role in the controversial 'Trainspotting' film, admits the treks forced him to turn down roles which would have netted him around $10million each.

But Ewan reckons the trips are more important than boosting his bank account, and is already planning his next trip, Long Way Up.

He and 41-year-old Boorman are set to travel from the southernmost tip of South America up through North America.

He said: "I don't worry about finding work. I take time to do these big bike trips.

"My agent might draw in his breath when I tell him I would like to do another one because it's four to five months out of the game but this is what life is all about.

"I am satisfied and happy with the work I've done and I think people hire me because I am good at what I do. I like to think so anyway."

The Hollywood hearthrob - who has three children with Eve, his wife of 12 years - has also claimed his breakthrough role as junkie Mark Renton in Trainspotting made more of an impact on his career than his roles in the epic Star Wars films.

"In terms of impact, something like Trainspotting has more because people went, 'F***! What's with this?'.

"It's got more of an impact than Star Wars, when people are expecting something like that anyway," he added to Britain's Daily Record newspaper.

They are so much of their own thing. It's about Star Wars. It isn't about me.

"It's difficult to tell how they affect you career-wise. That's why it is best not to play that game.

"It's best to be in it for the stories and for the love of it - and because I like to be paid well when I can be."
