Britney Spears' mother has asked fans to pray for her troubled daughter after the singer was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
Lynn Spears tearfully said by telephone today (fri): "Just say prayers."
US celebrity TV show Access Hollywood revealed: "Lynn was extremely distraught, crying on the phone."
Spears, 26, was reportedly on suicide watch today (fri) after being admitted to hospital in Los Angeles late on Thursday night.
She has been placed on lockdown for a mental evaluation after the pop star locked herself in a room with one of her children at her Los Angeles home and refused to hand him over to ex-husband, Kevin Federline.
Spears, who according to police appeared to be "under the influence of an unknown substance," was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
She was pictured being stretchered out of her home into a waiting ambulance. Sources say she has been put on a minimum 72-hour lock down for mental evaluation - and could remain in hospital for 14 days.
The Toxic singer, who has visitation rights with her two sons Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, was scheduled to hand the boys over to Federline at 7 pm on Thursday.
According to police, officers responded around 8pm to a call "about a custodial dispute regarding Britney Spears's children," says Los Angeles police Officer Jason Lee.
Nearly three hours later, police determined that a court order stated that the singer's children, who were with Spears at the time, were supposed to be with Federline, and a transfer was arranged, Lee said.
"While officers were on the scene, they observed Ms. Spears under the influence of an unknown substance," Lee added.
The Los Angeles Police Department said was taken to hospital "for her own welfare".
Both boys were taken to the hospital and Federline took the boys home early on Friday morning. Spears' father, Jamie, remains at the hospital with his eldest daughter.
Federline's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, was tonight (fri) bidding to strip Spears of her visitation rights.
