Jaws star Roy Scheider dies aged 75

Roy ScheiderJaws star Roy Scheider has died aged 75.

The actor was best known for his role as heroic police captain Martin Brody in Steven Spielberg's 1975 shark thriller and its sequel.

He passed away last night (Sunday) at the University for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, a hospital spokesman said.

Scheider garnered two Oscar nominations over his career with nods for best supporting actor prize for The French Connection in 1972 and the coveted best actor award for 1979's All That Jazz

Jaws is often cited as the film that launched the blockbuster and Scheider's memorable line in the film, 'You're going to need a bigger boat,' has been voted as the most famous in film history.

Scheider, twice married, leaves behind three children.
