Locked-up OJ Simpson had his bail doubled to $250,000 yesterday as he was rapped by a furious judge. The fallen US sports star was reprimanded by Judge Jackie Glass for violating the terms of his original bail by trying to contact a co-defendant in his armed robbery case.
He was told he must stay behind bars in Las Vegas until 15% of the bail is paid in cash.
The Clark County District Court judge told Simpson: "I don't know, Mr Simpson, what the heck you were thinking - or maybe that's the problem, you weren't. "I don't know if it's just arrogance. I don't know if it's ignorance.
"But you've been locked up at the Clark County Detention Center since Friday because of arrogance or ignorance - or both."
Simpson grimaced when his new bail was set. His attorney told the court the ex-American Football idol's Miami home will be put up as collateral.
Simpson is charged with kidnapping and armed robbery of sports memorabilia in a Vegas hotel in September.
He was ordered not to contact any other defendants in the case or leave the US. The judge warned he will be locked up until his trial begins on April 7 if he violates any of his bail conditions again.
Simpson was forced to return to Las Vegas from Miami by a bail bondsman who "arrested" him.
The district attorney says Simpson left an expletive-laced phone message for the bondsman telling him to let a co-defendant know he was upset with him.
Simpson was cleared in 1995 of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole and pal Ronald Goldman.
