Greys Anatomy star Katherine Heigl has revealed how her "beautiful" wedding was plagued by a string of disasters. The '27 Dresses' actress told how husband Josh Kelley split his nose open just two days before the ceremony and almost lost his wedding ring less than 24 hours after the nuptials.
She also admitted they nearly missed their honeymoon in Mexico because she forgot she needed her passport to get into the country.
Heigl, 29, wed musician Kelley last month at what she described as a "spectacularly beautiful" ceremony in Park City, Utah.
But the blonde TV star said she feared her new hubby would be saying his vows with a bandaged nose after a skiing accident just 48 hours before their big day. "I told him don't ski before the wedding, it's not a good idea, you haven't skied in years," she told US chat show host David Letterman.
But Heigl said her husband-to-be assured her he was an "excellent skier", went against her wishes and took to the slopes.
"Anyone who knows Josh well knows he likes to show off and he's very good at everything," she explained.
"But on this occasion he not only skied, but he showed off, and he got in an accident and hit his nose on his knee and split it open.
"It was really unattractive. He didn't have to get stitches thank god. His father is a doctor and said 'It's okay, it's not broken' and put ice on it.
"I wouldn't speak to him until the wedding day. Then I had to - I had to direct my vows at someone."
Josh's luck got worse the day after the wedding - when he almost lost his wedding band in the snow.
"My mother and I bought property up in Utah. We were scouting the property and there was tons of snow - it had been snowing constantly," Heigl told Letterman.
"He was throwing snowballs and the ring was big - which wasn't his fault - and he shook snow off his hand and it sunk like a stone.
"My brother, who doesn't generally care that much about sentimentality and wedding bands I guess, found some guys with metal detectors at a gas station in the middle of nowhere in Utah - and they found it.
The actress said her problems got worse, when they were on their way to the airport for their honeymoon in Mexico. "I lost my passport - well I didn't lose it, I forgot it - before the honey moon," she laughed.
"We were going to Mexico. A couple of years ago you didn't need your passport to go to Mexico, but now you do.
"So all of this great stuff I had over him [Josh] was lost when I forgot my passport."
Heigl said despite the comedy of errors, married life was "pretty amazing thus far".
"We're both still sort of settling into it," she said.
"We haven't actually ever lived together so we're waiting because we have a new house and we're trying to get into it. Now he's just sort of visiting in my house in LA.
"It's one of the things where it's sort of the same, but sort of not, because now I feel I can lord things over him in a different way - with more power and control," she joked.
But the actress admitted she had suffered last minute nerves in the days leading up to saying "I do".
"I was terrified. I didn't think I would be. I had been totally fine for the nine months of planning," she confessed.
"About two days before the wedding I had this vision of me in my Uggs and my robe, just running as fast as I could to the mountains and into the snow.
"Everybody said: 'Well if you start now we can catch you and bring you back'.
"Everybody else said: 'Yeah, but you'll get cold, so you'll come back'. No one was too worried," she laughed.
