Dr. Phil investigated for “practicing psychology” on Britney Spears

Dr Phil McGrawAmerica's top TV shrink is being accused of practicing without a license when he visited troubled Britney Spears in hospital.

A complaint against Dr Phil McGraw has reportedly been filed with the California Board of Psychology by a concerned psychologist

The psychologist claims Dr Phil was practicing psychology when he made his dramatic intervention, according to website TMZ.com.

Dr Phil has never been licensed to practice in California and he retired his Texas license in 2006, TMZ says.

The telly shrink came under fire for stepping in after Britney was hospitalised on January 4 following her furious confrontation with cops at her LA mansion.

Show insiders say Dr Phil was never trying to lure the Toxic singer onto his hit TV show. They insist there were never plans to put Britney on air.

If the Psychology Board finds the complaint credible it will be referred to the District Attorney for review. Practicing without a license is a felony offence in California.

The psychologist who filed the complaint also alleges Dr Phil broke the law by "discussing or divulging a patient's medical conditionwith the media".

The allegation refers to a press release issued by Dr Phil.

Accordint to TMZ, the complaint also says: "A petition is being circulated to remove the 'Dr Phil' show from the air."

No-one from the Dr Phil Show was available for comment.
