The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services paid a visit to the socialite's home on Tuesday to investigate a complaint about her dogs. The complaint arose after the hotel heiress appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' chat show - and revealed she owned a staggering 17 mutts. In LA, regulations state that a non-breeder is only allowed three dogs per address.
Paris told Ellen about her menagerie when she appeared as a guest on the talk show on Monday. "I have 17 dogs, yes - lots," she told the open-mouthed chat show host.
"They all sleep in my bed - well, not all of them, but I let some of them."
Paris said she owned so many dogs because they kept getting pregnant and she thought it was cruel to give the puppies away. "They keep having babies and I feel bad about giving them away," she explained.
"If I had a baby and someone gave it away for me, I feel bad for my dogs."
The former jailbird said she makes sure she takes all her pups out the same number of times, so they all get equal attention. "I trade it off so they don't get jealous," she said. "I'll bring like three out at once."
When Ellen asked why she didn't just get the animals neutered, Paris said they had now all been "fixed". "Well, two of them weren't," she later confessed.
The Animal Services Department said an animal rescue group had complained about Paris after seeing her on the Ellen show. But a spokesman said that when he visited her house it was under serious construction and nobody - including the pets - was home.
Paris' pets are reportedly not living with her at the moment and are all staying with animal handlers.
It is the second time this week that Paris' pet handling skills have been questioned. Animal Rescue Centre The Kris Kelly Foundation has seized her cat Prada after the socialite apparently left her at the vet's for two weeks. The foundation is refusing to return the feline friend, claiming it is a "clear cut case of abandonment".
As well as her cat and dogs, Paris also owns a goat, a ferret and a kinkajou.
