Paul McCartney slaps a paparazzo

Paul McCartneyPaul McCartney took the stress of his upcoming divorce showdown with estranged wife Heather Mills out on an unsuspecting photographer this weekend - by issuing the pap with a slap.

Sir Paul, 65, slapped snapper James Jenkins across the face - just three days before a court showdown with Heather Mills - when he spotted the shutterbug videoing him outside his London home.

The former Beatle - who is usually unfazed by photographers - then stormed off to a nearby gym.

But just over an hour later, Macca returned to his St John's Wood pad - and happily posed with waiting paparazzi.

Last night, Paul's rep blamed Jenkins for the bust-up.

"Every day for the last 18 months Paul has had to put up with up to ten paparazzi trailing him wherever he goes and these guys overstepped the mark," said the rep.

But Jenkins denied provoking Macca. "You can hear on the video that I didn't say a thing.

"It was him who walked up to me and became aggressive," he said. "His slap had quite a sting to it and I was left with a red mark."

And passerby said: "Paul came out of his house and made a beeline for the snapper - he seemed furious and was yelling.

"He lifted his hand and slapped the shocked photographer.

"I couldn't believe it because Paul is usually great with the paparazzi."

Sir Paul is due to face Heather, 40, in court tomorrow in a final bid to thrash out a megabucks divorce deal.

A pal said: "He's always been comfortable with the media and accepts photographers as part of his life.

"It just shows how stressed he is and how much the court case has got to him that he reacted like that."
