Lane Garrison watching Prison Break behind bars

Lane GarrisonFormer Prison Break star Lane Garrison has been watching his old show from behind bars.

The jailed actor and his fellow inmates were allowed to watch the season premiere of the hit US drama in the clink. "It felt like an out of body experience as I stood around a crowd of tattooed felons watching Michael Scofield trying to escape," he revealed in a letter to a US TV show.

Garrison, 27, penned the letter to entertainment show Access Hollywood from his cell in Donovan State Prison in California.

The TV star is currently serving a three year, four month sentence for a drunken car crash that killed a teenage boy. "Greetings and Happy New Year to you and everyone at Access Hollywood from Donovan State Prison," the letter reads.

"Never did I think I would be saying the words 'happy and prison' in the same sentence and not be on a set.

"It's pure irony coming from the show and now living the real deal. It's surreal and mind-blowing to say the least."

Garrison, whose Prison Break character Tweener was killed off in October 2006, revealed he had watched his old show with his fellow inmates. "Just this past Monday they let a group of inmates watch the season premiere of Prison Break," he wrote.

"It felt like an out of body experience as I stood around a crowd of tattooed felons watching Michael Scofield try to escape all of us longing to be free as well!"

The letter made clear how difficult Garrison finds prison life and he said he hoped his own experience would be a lesson to others. "This has been the hardest year of my life," the letter says.

"I hope people, young and old, are learning from my mistakes and what can happen when you drink and drive.

"I have much to say about the pain I've felt and seen inside of prison. It has been eye-opening and a harrowing experience."

Garrison was sentenced to jail in October last year after pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and driving under the influence causing injury. He also admitted providing alcohol to a minor and having a blood-alcohol level of .15 or higher.

The charges stemmed from a tragic car crash in the early hours of December 2, 2006, when an intoxicated Garrison careered off the road in Beverly Hills, California, and hit a tree. One of his passengers in the Land Rover, 17-year-old Vahagn Setian, was killed in the accident. Two 15-year-old girls survived.
