Keira Knightley’s Atonement dress to be auctioned off for charity

Keira KnightleyKeira Knightley's dress from Atonement is being auctioned off for charity.

And the green dress the star wore in the Oscar-nominated film could be yours for the right price.

The famous frock is being sold for 'The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation,' a non-profit organisation that hosts charity auctions showcasing the hottest celebrity attire.

"The green dress is probably one of the most important in the film," said Knightley.

The sexy green number - memorably worn during the emotional and romantic sequences between Knightley as Cecilia Tallis, opposite James McAvoy as Robbie Turner - is one of a handful that was made specifically for Knightley by Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline Durran.

"It was a huge collaboration between myself, director Joe Wright and Jacqueline Durran," said Knightley.

"For me it is very important because it played an integral role to who Cecilia is - this incredible glamour-puss."

Although identical green dresses were produced most were destroyed, said Knightley. "I didn't get to keep one of them," said the star.

So far the "Atonement" dress has reached an online bid of  $3,000USD with eight bids so far on www.clothesoffourback.org.
The auction ends March 1.
