Britney Spears to undergo a psychiatric evaluation

Britney SpearsTroubled pop princess Britney Spears is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The 'Toxic' star reportedly faces a full test before she can retain the authority to make her own legal decisions. Her dad, Jamie was granted temporary control over her medical, legal and financial decisions after she was sectioned last week.

Yesterday, Britney's lawyer, Adam Streisand - a distant cousin of singer Barbra - attempted to have the decision reversed, but Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz ruled the pop star must undergo the evaluation.

Samuel Ingham, the singer's court-appointed lawyer testified that he spoke to the fallen pop idol at the hospital for 15 minutes on Sunday afternoon, and admtted: "I think Ms. Spears does not understand the nature of these proceedings, and I think she lacks the capacity to hire a private lawyer."

Allan Parachini, the Los Angeles County Superior Court Public Information Officer, said: "The temporary conservatorship involving Ms. Spears has been extended until a hearing on February 14. A court appointed physician was assigned to evaluate her competency. That physician's report is due at the court on February 13."

Yesterday, Jamie Spears retained control of his daughter's estate - even though a court heard the singer did not want him to play a part.

Adam Streisand told the judge Britney was estranged from her father Jamie and was 'distressed' at the news he was controlling her affairs.

During yesterday's hearing, the judge also ordered Britney to have no contact by phone, text message or any means, with one time pal Sam Lutfi.

The court was told that a restraining order filed against Lutfi had not yet been served because he would not answer the door.

However, the judge did not give grant the conservators the power to fire Trope and Trope, Brit's divorce lawyers, which they had petitioned for.

Jamie Spears left the courtroom looking distressed, with bloodshot eyes and refused to answer any questions from journalists.

His legal team said they would not be making any comment.

Britney was involuntarily committed to the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at Los Angeles' UCLA Medical Center last week for a 72-hour mental evaluation after being classed as Gravely Disabled.

She will now spend an additional 14 days in the ward after her psychiatrist deemed she wasn't well enough to leave.
