A construction worker has pleaded guilty to killing actress Adrienne Shelly. Diego Pillco, an illegal immigrant from Ecuador, admitted to strangling Shelly in her New York apartment after she caught him stealing money from her purse. He then hanged her body to make it look like suicide.
Pillco is expected to get 25 years in prison when he is sentenced next month.
Mum-of-one Shelly, 40, was killed just two months before her final film, 'Waitress', premiered to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival.
Days after her body was discovered hanging in the bathroom by her husband, Andrew Ostroy, police re-canvassed the building and found a footprint that led them to Pillco, who was working on a neighbouring apartment. He quickly broke down and admitted to police that he killed Adrienne, insisting it had been an accident.
