Britney Spears’ dad’s lawyers back in court

Britney Spears, Jamie Spears Lawyers for Britney Spears' Dad were back in court today - but the outcome of the hearing remains a mystery.

Media reports had speculated that Jamie Spears would ask a judge for greater control over his daughter's affairs, after her surprise release from hospital.

But Los Angeles Superior Court said all details surrounding the last-minute hearing were private - even the reason for it being held.

Jamie Spears took control of Britney's affairs after his daughter was committed into a psychiatric ward at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles last week.

At a court hearing on Monday, which extended the conservatorship, his lawyer Vivian Thoreen said Jamie was stepping in because his daughter was "in great distress". "He is not here to take over her assets," she said. "He wants nothing more than to get her the medical help she needs to get her better and help her get her children back."

But yesterday (Wednesday), Britney was released from the psychiatric ward after just one week of treatment - and her parents were not happy.

In a statement, Jamie and Lynn Spears said they were "extremely disappointed" to learn of their daughter's release - which went against the advice of her psychiatrist. "We are deeply concerned about our daughter's safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk," they said.

"There are conservatorship orders in place created to protect our daughter that are being blatantly disregarded.

"We ask only that the court's orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted."

Today, co-conservator Andrew Wallet and attorneys Samuel Ingham and Jeryll Cohen arrived at LA Superior Court - this time without Jamie Spears - and met with the case Judge.

The outcome of the hearing remained shrouded in mystery, with the court staying tight-lipped. "Everything about this matter is sealed," court spokesman Allan Parachini explained.

But a motion filed at court by the conservator was reportedly unopposed.

Britney got straight back into the swing of things following her release from hospital, and headed for the Beverly Hills Hotel where she met paparazzo boyfriend Adnan Ghalib.

The couple then drove to the LA offices of lawyer Adam Streisand, who went to court on Monday to try and have her father and Wallet removed as conservators.

During the two-hour hearing he told the Judge Britney was estranged from her dad and did not want him in charge of her estate.

But today, Mr. Streisand - a distant cousin of singer Barbara - admitted he was unable to help the Toxic star.

His office said, in a statement: "At the request of Britney Spears, Adam Streisand, a Partner at Loeb & Loeb LLP, met with her yesterday to discuss her legal rights in connection with the conservatorship over her person and estate.

"Following that meeting, Mr. Streisand learned that the court had issued orders that prevent Ms. Spears from retaining counsel of her own choosing, and on that basis, Mr. Streisand has decided he will not represent her at this time."

Under the powers of the conservatorship order, Jamie Spears is able to restrict the visitors Britney receives and has the right to approve contracts.

According to US reports, he could ask for an extra order which would require the police to enforce any instructions he gives out.
