A US student is in critical condition after being shot inside a classroom.
The 15 year-old student, who has not been named, is currently in a serious condition in hospital.
The shooting happened after the gunman, another student, burst into the classroom just after 8.30am on Tuesday morning. The shooter opened fire and hit the student before fleeing off campus.
The gunman was apprehended nearby by police, who said it appeared to be an isolated incident between the two students. Several dozen officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the junior high E O Green School after receiving a report of shots fired.
The school in Oxnard, just north of Los Angeles, has now been closed and students sent home.
Hundreds of parents lined up outside the school and were being allowed to go onto the campus one-by-one to pick up their child. The victim is still being treated at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard
