Man’s life saved by DVD

A US man's life was saved when a DVD stopped a bullet for him.

Barry McRoy was leaving a fast food restaurant in Walterboro, South Carolina, when two men burst in wrestling for control of a gun. And when the gun accidentally went off, a bullet struck one of the two men before shattering a window and ricocheting off to hit Mr McRoy, police said.

Mr McRoy, a Fire and Rescue Director for Colleton County Fire Service, did not notice that he had been shot in the incident on Saturday morning. He had a bruise where the bullet hit him in the Waffle House eaterie. It was only when he gave a statement to police that he noticed a bullet hole in his jacket.

He told a US newspaper: "I was saved by a DVD.

"How lucky can you get?"

He later found the shattered DVD case and a piece of the bullet in his pocket.

One man was arrested on assault and battery and gun charges.

The DVD itself - which was a gift from an employee who had recorded a TV show about fire extinguishers - was damaged in the incident, he told a local television news station.
