Britney Spears has a dramatic showdown with her parents

Britney SpearsTormented Britney Spears was in a dramatic showdown with her parents last night - hours after her release from a psychiatric hospital.

The troubled pop wreck was reunited with her heartbroken mum and dad after they released a statement saying they were in fear for her life.

Lynne and Jamie Spears were believed to be pleading with their daughter to re-enter a mental health facility voluntarily, according to U.S. reports.

Britney discharged herself from the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday after doctors ruled she did not pose a danger to herself or to others.

After leaving she was pursued by crowds of paparazzi and television helicopters on a wild chase around Los Angeles before meeting up with her British pap boyfriend Adnan Galib at the Beverley Hills Hotel.

According to reports the pair paid a visit to a lawyer who Britney attempted to hire over the weekend to wrestle back legal control of her affairs from her father.

But after spending about an hour at the offices the couple returned to the Beverley Hills Hotel.

According to U.S. reports, Britney's father Jamie then arrived at the hotel carrying legal documents and asking to see his daughter.

After a meeting inside the hotel, where Britney her boyfriend Adnan Ghalib and her father were present, the group traveled back to the star's Beverly Hills home where Britney's mother met them.

Spears parents want Britney to return to a medical treatment facility.

In a statement last night, they said: "As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed to learn that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital that could best care for her and keep her safe.

"We are deeply concerned about our daughter's safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk."

If they can not get Britney into treatment her father plans to move into his daughter's home to monitor her, according to U.S. reports.

A source close to the family told U.S. entertainment show Access Hollywood that Jamie will move in with his daughter to monitor her along with another person who will act as a guardian and sobriety coach.

"They will try to keep her calm," the source said of Jamie and the guardian.

One way they may be able to keep her at home was visible outside the gate of her closed community last night.

Two cars belonging to the star - a black Audi and a white Mini Cooper - were seen being taken from the compound on a flatbed truck.
