Hollywood's favourite DJ has opened up about his wild years of heavy drug abuse. Celebrity spinner DJ AM, who has dated the likes of Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore, says his addiction escalated when was kicked out of his home by his mum at the age of 14.
"I spent the next two years doing drugs every day, until I went to my mom and actually asked her to send me to rehab," AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, told Glamour magazine.
Goldstein, 34, stayed in the center, which he calls 'an abusive house of horrors' until he was 18.
"When I was 20, I started freebasing cocaine. For the next four years that's about all I did - with the exception of deejaying.
"At 24, I felt like my life was over."
Things got so bad that Golstein ended up putting a loaded pistol in is mouth, but when he pulled the trigger the gun did not fire.
Goldstein tells the magazine that he has now been sober for more than nine years.
