Pulp Fiction writer Roger Avery has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and drink-driving. The Oscar-winning screenwriter's wife was catapulted from their car after it crashed, killing a man who was in the vehicle with them, according to police.
Avary, 42, who also co-wrote recent epic Beowulf, was the driver in the single-car collision shortly after midnight in Sunday, at Ventura, California.
It killed Andreas Zini, 34, who lived in Italy but was apparently visiting the couple.
Firefighters had cut him from the car and he died several hours later in hospital.
Avary's wife Gretchen, 40, was thrown from the car and found lying in the road by crash teams. She was taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition.
Avary, who scooped an Academy Award along with movie legend Quentin Tarantino for writing Pulp Fiction, was arrested and bailed.
