Meet Britain’s worst drivers

Last Chance Driving School A university graduate with a double first in law has been named one of Britain's worst drivers.

Ed Wells is a genius when it comes to essays and exams but has failed 14 driving tests over seven years.  The 24-year-old doesn't bat an eyelid giving lectures in front of classmates but falls to pieces whenever he gets behind the wheel.

The bright spark had already failed 13 tests when he was selected to appear on ITV's Last Chance Driving School. Ed was one of ten of Britain's worst drivers put through his paces by three expert driving instructors.

Between them they have failed more than 30 tests and spent thousand of pounds on lessons.  Ed failed his 14th test when he pulled out of a junction in front of a fast travelling sports car.

He said: "I'm gutted but it's one of those things. I just have to move on and do better next time."

Among the other students was 51-year-old Janet Bodman who has had more than 200 lessons over 22 years. She was desperate to pass her test for her husband who is likely to lose his licence soon because of failing eye sight, but instructors refused to let her take her test because her driving was so dangerous.

She said: "I've been trying for 22 years on and off so I can't even use the excuse that there's extra pressure on me because my husband's illness. I couldn't do it then so what's the difference now?

"They will take my husband's licence off him soon. Basically it could be as bad as losing our house because I can't afford to pay it all."
